Metro is apparently the best transportation to get to Yu Garden as it’s centrally located and surrounded by heavy traffic. Shanghai’s metro system is clean, bilingual (Chinese and English signage), and affordable. A single journey typically costs between RMB 3–6 depending on distance.

🚶 On Foot, from the Bund/People's Square/Shanghai Museum
Yu Garden is approximately 20–25 minutes’ walk from The Bund. The route passes through older neighborhoods and gives a sense of historic Shanghai beyond the modern waterfront skyline.
Yu Garden is also combined with People's Square, Nanjing Road and Shanghai Museum in a day. All are centrally located and in walking distance.
